Sometimes the call comes from right down the road.
While Five Finger Death Punch was performing in Cincinnati, Dr. Ryan Hill was contacted to help with custom in-ear monitor impressions for the band’s lead vocalist.
For Ryan, it was especially memorable because he was already a fan of the band.
For us, it was another example of something we see all the time: whether someone is performing on an arena tour or a local stage, the quality of the impression matters when a custom IEM needs to fit correctly and perform reliably.

Ryan regularly works with musicians throughout Greater Cincinnati, including local bands, worship musicians, vocalists, drummers, instrumentalists, and audio professionals.

Worship Musicians
Modern worship environments can have many of the same monitoring demands as other live performances.
Multiple vocalists, drums, guitars, keyboards, tracks, and other instruments all need to work together in a live mix.
Ryan has worked with musicians connected to worship teams throughout the Cincinnati area, from large multi-site churches to smaller local congregations.
For many of these musicians, custom IEMs make it possible to hear the mix they need while reducing the amount of outside stage sound reaching their ears.

The Impression Matters
The finished IEM may contain sophisticated technology, but the process begins with something much simpler: an accurate impression of your ear.
That impression becomes the foundation your manufacturer uses to create the custom fit.

Hill Hear Better is manufacturer agnostic. Our focus is on helping you get an accurate impression and giving you audiological expertise when you need it.
Protecting the Hearing Behind the Music
Custom monitors are only one part of hearing health for musicians.
Ryan frequently talks with performers and audio professionals who have experienced tinnitus, temporary hearing changes after performances, difficulty hearing in certain environments, or the need to continually increase their monitoring levels.
Those are worth paying attention to.
Custom IEMs can help musicians control what they hear and reduce their dependence on loud stage volume, but they are not automatically hearing-safe. The level being delivered through the monitor still matters.
That’s one advantage of working with an audiologist who understands both hearing health and the realities of live performance.
